Transfer of fish with electric fishing

Electric fishing, also known as electrofishing, is a technique primarily used in scientific studies and aquatic resource management to capture fish without killing them. This method employs electric currents to temporarily stun fish, allowing them to be captured and released unharmed. The most common processes involve submerged electrodes connected to a direct or alternating current generator. When the electrodes are introduced into the water, they create an electric field that affects nearby fish, inducing a neuromuscular response that temporarily stuns them. This makes it easier to collect the fish with nets without causing permanent harm. Electrofishing is particularly useful for conducting population censuses, growth and health studies, and relocating species in conservation areas. Additionally, it is an effective tool for managing invasive species, enabling their capture without impacting native species.
